Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announces the conviction of a woman who caused a deadly accident while driving under the influence in 2022.
Ahna Malik, 44, was found guilty of all 17 counts related to the fatal accident that took the life of a Madison woman in March of 2022, including homicide by vehicle while DUI.
Malik attempted to pass several vehicles on Arona Road in Hempfield Township before driving her vehicle into oncoming traffic and striking another car, killing the driver.
Toxicology tests revealed Malik had drugs in her system at the time of the accident, including crystal meth and marijuana.
Malik was also charged with several drug-related offenses after troopers found narcotics in Malik's car the day of the accident.
A Westmoreland County jury deliberated for a just a few hours on Thursday, May 9, 2024 before returning a guilty verdict.
DA Ziccarelli said, "While this verdict will not bring the victim back, I do hope the victim's family finds closure knowing this driver will be held accountable. I also want to thank Trooper Troy Faulk and Assistant District Attorney Allen Powanda for prosecuting this case with such professionalism."
Malik's bond was revoked, she will be sentenced in the next 90 days.
