Greensburg, PA -- Westmoreland County District Attorney Nicole W. Ziccarelli announces a Murrysville man entered a guilty plea for homicide by vehicle while DUI on Monday, May 19, 2025.
Darren Hamm, 61, pleaded guilty to homicide by vehicle while DUI for his role in a deadly accident in Murrysville in October of 2023.
The accident claimed the life of Michael Poholsky, of New Alexandria.
Murrysville Police responded to the fatal accident on October 7, 2023 at the intersection of Route 22 and School Road.
Officers located four vehicles with one of the drivers unresponsive and entrapped in the vehicle.
Michael Poholsky, was pronounced dead at the scene, while his passenger had to be transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.
Hamm was seen failing to stop for a steady red light at the intersection and caused the deadly collision.
Hamm's blood alcohol content was more than two times the legal limit.
Video surveillance observed by investigators from along Route 22 showed the traffic signal was red for 22 seconds prior to the crash occurring.
Hamm has three previous DUI arrests.
He was sentenced to serve five and a half to 15 years in prison followed by five years of probation, in addition to an ignition interlock device being added to his vehicle upon release.
