New Florence, PA -- Pennsylvania State Police, in cooperation with the Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office, charged a New Florence man after an infant was admitted to the hospital with broken bones and severe bruising.
Christopher McClellan Timko, 30, was arrested on November 30, 2023 and charged with two counts of aggravated assault of a child, endangering the welfare of children and obstruction.
State police investigators were notified that an infant was admitted to UPMC Children's Hosptial with serious injuries on November 29, 2023.
The two-month-old was initially taken to a pediatric doctor in Blairsville on November 28, 2023 for what was reported as a rash on the infant's chest. The rash was diagnosed as an abrasion bruise and Timko was advised to take the child to Children's Hospital but did not seek further treatment.
Children and Youth Services was contacted and visited the Timko's home following the pediatric appointment and observed bruises to the victim. CYS urged Timko to take the child to Children's Hospital for treatment.
Upon evaluation at Children's, reported injuries to the infant victim included bruising on the infant's chest, legs, back, head and hands.
Initial testing revealed two possible rib fractures on the lower left side, and the infant also had fractures on both legs, according to state police.
Timko was interviewed at the hospital where he allegedly admitted to physically abusing the infant after initially lying about the child's injuries.
Timko told troopers he aggressively pulled on the infant's legs out of frustration and anger and dropped the child onto the floor while holding the infant.
State police said the injuries reportedly occurred over the last two weeks while the child's mother was at work and was in the care of Timko.
Timko was arraigned in front of Magistrate Judge Denise Thiel and was denied bail.
